Mesmo Delivery is a 56-page comic about an ex-boxer who must deliver a tractor-trailer of goods without looking at the mysterious cargo. The books is filled with amazing black and white artwork and gripping action. “It’s unlike anything else out there, and the artwork is so beautiful you can get lost in it.” – Popmatic

Rafael Grampá began working as an illustrator at the age of 14 illustrating self-help books in his home country Brazil. During this early period, Grampá also did t-shirt designs, caricatures, children’s party decorations, coats of arms and logos for butcher shops and surf shops. After that he graduated to working as an illustrator for a kid’s comic publisher. He went to work with animation in 2003 at the Brazilian motion graphics studio LOBO where he was art director and concept designer for four years, working for clients such as The Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. Rafael launched Mesmo Delivery at the San Diego Comic Con earlier this year. It is his first Graphic Novel.

so, ok- i’ve been a little short on words here, since i’ve been back in the country.  the good news is i’ve been ridiculously busy with new work… last week 2 giant boxes arrived with reference from 2 publishers for a new series i’m supposed to write for each next year.  adding that to VIKING, which i’ll finally be able to announce formally in the near future, and there are 3 ongoing comic books in the works for 2009.  

and that’s just comics… i’m developing 2 other-media things at the same time and continuing to travel… i’ve boarded about 25 planes in the last year and i’m headed to baltimore later this month and then back to los angeles, maybe and vegas the month after.  and maybe i’ll end the year in brazil, again, if i can work that out.   

there’s a lot going on.  some of it takes time to announce, but i’m going to try to keep my attention here, too.  

and i still owe you a deleted scenes post or 2 about the things i couldn’t write about in the hectic last month in south america.

the last part of niko henrichon and my machine man story is out today in marvel comics presents #5, and i made him draw so many crazy crazy things.

it takes place in bombay.

tomorrow to sunday i’ll be in canada at the TORONTO FAN EXPO signing and selling books and robotic shark shirts.  i will most likely have copies of the giant and excellent tori amos COMIC BOOK TATTOO anthology along with my regular batch of graphic novels and if you ask me nice, i might show you some art from the upcoming VIKING.

i’ll be at table P47 all day except on saturday from 1-2pm, when i’ll be on marvel’s BREAKING INTO THE HOUSE OF IDEAS panel.

i will accept any and all strange canadian snacks.

(it would help if i remembered to post these things more than a couple of hours before they happened, sorry)

i’ll be signing tonight at golden apple on melrose in los angeles, with ted mckeever, eric canete, david mack, andy macdonald, mark sable and rantz hosely (i think there are more but those are the ones i know)

i’ve got a couple things the week after in los angeles, so stay posted for more news.

on a lark, i started a thread on my forum, for people to post sketches of dr. doom. it’s been a lot more popular than i would ever have imagined, with a number of pieces showing up, but most importantly some pretty incredible artists posting NEW pieces they did just for the sake of the thread.

the 2nd part of me and niko henrichon‘s machine man run is called I’LL BE YOU and is out this week (5/29) in marvel comics presents #9, with a HULK cover by steve mcniven. it features a new marvel character niko and i cooked up for your birthday.

having a conversation with niko henrichon, both of us looking at the jack kirby 2001 series that machine man came out of.

niko says “i’d like to go back in time, to become an american kid while these books were being published.”

“I was at Bob Kane’s funeral,” Evanier said. “There were only four people from comics there: me, Stan Lee, Mike Barr and Paul Smith. A whole bunch of Batman toys were put into Kane’s coffin and they were lowering it down. As the Kane was being put into the ground Stan turned around to me and said ‘Steve Ditko was the best inker Jack Kirby ever had.’”

Evanier admitted that Lee didn’t have the best attention span.
